Free mortgage assessment: common questions
What does the free mortgage assessment cover?
It asks about what you are planning (buying a home, renewing, or refinancing), your timeline, the type and location of the property, your approximate price or mortgage balance, your down payment or equity, how you earn your income, and your own estimate of your credit. Cornell K. Haynes reviews your answers personally and follows up to explain where you stand and what the sensible next step is. It is a starting conversation, not a mortgage application.
How long does the assessment take?
About two minutes for most people. The questions are short and mostly multiple choice, and you do not need any documents, pay stubs or account numbers to complete it.
Will completing the assessment affect my credit score?
No. No credit check is performed and nothing is reported to a credit bureau. The credit question asks only for your own estimate. A credit check happens later, and only with your consent, if you decide to move forward with a formal mortgage application.
Who is the assessment for?
Ontario homeowners and buyers who want a clear read on their options: first-time buyers, move-up buyers, homeowners whose mortgage renews in the next year, owners thinking about a refinance to consolidate debt or access equity, self-employed borrowers, newcomers to Canada, and buyers of a home with a rental suite. If you are early in the process, it is still worth doing; it shows what to work on first.
Which areas of Ontario do you serve?
Cornell is based in Hamilton and works with clients across Ontario, including Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville and Milton, Toronto and the rest of the GTA, Waterloo Region, Niagara, and communities throughout the province. Consultations are available by phone or video, so you do not need to be near an office.
